GOOD FRIDAY
2020

Crucifixion – Sadao Watanabe
`It was for us…`
`He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross,
so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness;
by his wounds you have been healed.`
1 Peter 2: 24
Hymn 342 ‘When I survey the wondrous Cross’
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride
Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood
See from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Were the whole realm of Nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all!
Prayer
God of each day, God of this Good Friday,
we wonder at all You have done for us
in the death of Christ our Lord.
We come humbly to the cross, lost in love and grief
for all He has borne for us.
Forgive us. Heal us.
Make and re-make us into the image of Your Son
that we may live for Christ and die to self.
We ask this in Jesus` name.
Amen
Readings
Hebrews 4: 14-16 and Hebrews 5: 7-9
(Read these verses softly, slowly out loud. Sit for a moment in silence after you`ve read them.)
What do these verses tell us about Jesus?
What do they tell us about God?
How does this help your faith?
Does this help your faith?
Taize song
`Within our darkest night You kindle a fire that never dies away, never dies away`
Prayer
This is how much God loved the world:
He gave His Son, His one and only Son.
And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed.
By believing in Him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.`
John 3: 16 (The Message)
Bless, heal and help our broken, battered world.
Bless, heal and help our broken, battered lives.
Bless, heal and help us and all creation, for Jesus` sake.
Amen
We sit in silence
